Growing Through Positive Attitude

Growing Through Positive Attitude (2 Pet 1:3-9)

Prepared by Ptr. Doods Agravante

Paul certainly has a positive attitude.  but why positive attitude is important to spiritual growth?  for spiritual growth to continue, however, requires maintaining posotive attitude.

  1. Importance of positive attitude
    1. The value of positive attitude
      1. The people had a mind to work (Neh. 4:6).
      2. It helped them overcome redicule (Neh. 4:1-3).
    2. The danger of negative attitude
      1. their negative attitude discouraged the rest of Israel (Num. 13:32- 14:4; 32:7-9).
      2. It led to Israel complaining and rebelling against God (Deut. 1:26-28).
  2. Maintaining a positive attitude
    1. Choose to be positive
      1. We can control our attitude and moods.
      2. we can maintain a positive attitude despite our external circumstances (2 Cor. 4:16 – 5:1; Phil. 2:17-18.
      3. Be like Barnabas “Son of encouragement” (Acts 4:36; 11:24).
    2. Block out negativity
      1. By avoiding negative self-talk such as “I can’t do it; its too hard..”
      2. By avoiding negative people.
      3. Choose your friends carefully (I Cor 15:33).
      4. Stay away from toxic people- full of negative attitudes.
    3. Live in the present with an eye to the future

Live in the present not the past.

We have every reason to have a positive attitude about our spiritual growth.  God is ready to help us grow (Phil 2:12.  He designed the church to provide an environment conducive to growth (Eph. 4:16).  The challenge we face is not to allow our positive attitude to be destroyed.

The choice is ours! Have you made the choice to follow God?
